Paris Street Is Paris Street - 04 - Second Song For The Upper Peninsula

(Over the next two weeks, I'll be shamelessly promoting my band's new album. One song from the 10-track album will be posted every weekday, along with all sorts of accompanying information - including lyrics, videos, alternate takes, and whatever song or songs served as an obvious influence - that will be of little interest to anyone else but me. The band is called Paris Street. The album is called Paris Street Is Paris Street. If you stick with me, your reward will be a free, 10-song album of pretty little pop songs.)

The Song:
Paris Street - 04 - Second Song For The Upper Peninsula

The Lyrics:
The Upper Peninsula at 3am / I'm waiting for my second wind to kick in / And all that I want is to kiss you and then / Kiss again / All of the stars are out for us to see / A romantic moment that's framed perfectly / Suspecting instead that it's not meant to be / You and me / Driving for hours with hours to go / Your head tilted back, leaned against the window / And I have to look out for deer on the road / Driving slow / Surrounded by universe til nothing remains / But new constellations waiting to be named / And all that it takes are the right words to say / What a shame / There are tears / In your eyes / And you won't / Tell me why / And I'm afraid to pry / So you cry / You've never been as far as this

The Most Obvious Influence:
The Clientele - The Violet Hour
I had every intention on making this sound like this Clientele song. I failed miserably, but that's probably a good thing.

The Players:
Darrin Revell (drums, bass, backing vocals), J. Avery Vaughn (electric guitar, backing vocals), Neely Vaughn (backing vocals), Me (vocals, acoustic guitar, 12-string guitar, electric guitar, loops)

Who Wrote The First Song For The Upper Peninsula?:
Sufjan Stevens. Mine is better, though.

(The band can be found on Myspace, Last.fm, and Facebook. If you're a fellow blogger and feel like writing about us, let me know so I can send you a zip file of the album, along with an exclusive track or two. If anyone would like a physical copy of the CD, send me an email with your address and I'll mail it to you. If you're a generous soul, you can purchase a digital copy of the album through Amie Street. Any comments and/or critiques would be incredibly welcome. If you've read this far, I can not thank you enough.)
