Paris Street Is Paris Street - 09 - Out-Takes From The Night Before (Everybody Laughs)

(Over the next two three weeks, I'll be shamelessly promoting my band's new album. One song from the 10-track album will be posted every weekday, along with all sorts of accompanying information - including lyrics, videos, alternate takes, and whatever song or songs served as an obvious influence - that will be of little interest to anyone else but me. The band is called Paris Street. The album is called Paris Street Is Paris Street. If you stick with me, your reward will be a free, 10-song album of pretty little pop songs.)

The Song:
Paris Street - 09 - Out-takes From The Night Before (Everybody Laughs)

The Lyrics:
Casey wakes up wishing that he was dead / Noticing he's thrown up off the side of the bed / And everybody laughs / A bruise of unknown origin on Cindy's knee / Grass stains where grass stains just should not be / And everybody laughs / Anthony saw double on the short drive home / The smell of yesterday still on his clothes / And everybody laughs / Random cigarette butts in Annie's hair / A comedic stumble down the nightclub stairs / And everybody laughs / Everybody laughs / We each hold a key to the mystery / A puzzle in our collective memories / Where everybody laughs / Everybody laughs / I'm trying to piece together the night before / As I lay between the hallway and the bathroom floor / And everybody laughs

The Demo Version That Most People Prefer:
Paris Street - Out-Takes From The Night Before (Demo)

The Most Obvious Influence:
This specific version of "Women's Realm" by Belle And Sebastian. It is from a show at The Wiltern in Los Angeles on 6 September 2001. The moment at the beginning of the last verse where it sounds like everybody on stage is singing at the same time is absolutely wonderful. Ever since I heard this recording, I've wanted to write a song that featured a similar moment.

The Players:
Darrin (vocals, drums, e-bow), Jack (vocals, bass), Neely (vocals), Me (vocals, electric guitar, keys)

(The band can be found on Myspace, Last.fm, and Facebook. If you're a fellow blogger and feel like writing about us, let me know so I can send you a zip file of the album, along with an exclusive track or two. If anyone would like a physical copy of the CD, send me an email with your address and I'll mail it to you. If you're a generous soul, you can purchase a digital copy of the album through Amie Street. Any comments and/or critiques would be incredibly welcome. If you've read this far, I can not thank you enough.)
